Privacy Policy

FrenchDirect ("the app", "we") is a French-learning app operated by Gurdarshan Singh in Manitoba, Canada. We collect only what the app needs to work, and we never sell your data. This policy explains what we collect and why.

Information we collect

• Account: your email address and an encrypted password, stored with our backend provider Supabase, used to sign you in and manage your account.
• Device identifier: a technical device ID, used only to protect accounts from unauthorised sharing and misuse. Not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
• Subscription status: whether you have an active subscription, its expiry, and which store it came from. Payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your card details. Purchases are processed on our behalf by RevenueCat.
• AI Tutor messages: text you send to the AI Tutor (and recent context) is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a reply, along with your chosen learning language. We store a daily message count to enforce limits. Please don't include sensitive personal information in tutor messages.
• Content-protection events: to protect our content, the app records when a screenshot or screen recording is taken while viewing premium material, linked to your account. Repeated capture may lead to your account being restricted.
• Learning activity: basic progress data (such as quiz activity) to power app features.

What we do NOT do

• No advertising, ad networks, or cross-app tracking.
• We never sell or rent your personal information.
• No collection of contacts, precise location, photos, or microphone audio.

Service providers

We rely on a few processors to run the app: Supabase (accounts, database), RevenueCat (subscription management), Apple / Google (payments, distribution), Google Gemini (AI Tutor responses), and Resend (transactional email). Each receives only what it needs.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and its data anytime from Account → Delete Account in the app; deletion is immediate and irreversible. You may also email us to request deletion.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and protected by access controls; premium content and account data are gated server-side.

Children

FrenchDirect is a general-audience educational app, not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law (including Canada's PIPEDA), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing support@frenchdirect.app.

Changes

If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
